Mathematics is kind of a pyramid. Each newer skill needs a good understanding and concentration to do it well. For instance, if you try learning the algebra or geometry, you need to first learn the process of addition and subtraction.
Importance of Basic Math
Mathematics is vital for all of us and it is used directly or indirectly by each one of us every day. For example, counting is used in many situations like calculating the heart rate per minute, number of times we breathe every minute or even calculating total grains in a barrel.
Basic Math Operations
Basic math topics would include numbers and 4 major operations namely, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
The next major topic of basic math would include addition. Addition is the process where two or more numbers are united together so that we get one final result in a single number. Addition is denoted by the ‘+’ symbol and it is known as ‘sum’. Example of addition: 5 + 4 = 9
Subtraction is the process where we find the difference in-between two numbers. Subtraction is denoted by ‘-‘symbol and the resultant is known as difference. Example of subtraction: 5 – 4 = 1
Multiplication is used for finding the product of two quantities. It is denoted by ‘x’. Example of multiplication: 5 x 4 = 20
Division is the process to find how many times the 2nd number goes into 1st. It is denoted by ‘÷’. Example of division: 5 ÷ 4 = 1.25
