Sources of Food
We get food from various parts of the plants. Stems of certain plants are eaten by us. Stem of sugarcane is eaten. Potato, onion. ginger and garlic which are usually eaten as vegetables, are in fact, underground stem. Roots of plants Like carrot, radish, trump. sweet potato and beetroot are eaten.
SOURCES OF FOOD
There are two main sources of food in the world for all human beings'namely plants and animals. It is on this account that there exists an intimate relationship between plants, animals and human welfare. Therefore plants and animals are necessary for human existence.
Plants as Medicines
Some plants have medicinal value and are used for curing certain diseases especially in Ayurvcda. Mint, basil, ginger, fenugreek, etc. are used in medicines.
Fruits are rich in minerals and vitamins. Mango banana, apple, strawberry and orange are commonly eaten fruits. Tea and coffee are common beverages consumed in india. Tea is obtained from leaves while coffee is obtained from seeds.
Animals as Sources of Food
Meat of animals such as goat, sheep, pigs, chicken and fish is eaten by human beings. It is a rich source of proteins. Eggs Birds like hen, goose, and duck give us eggs. Eggs are rich sources of proteins and vitamins. Animals which provide both meat and eggs are called poultry animals. It is a rich source of proteins and vitamins. Fishes are found both in fresh water as well as sea water. Rearing and management of fish on a large scale is known as pisciculture.
Honey is a sweet liquid made by honey bees from the nectar of flowers, It consists of water, sugars minerals and enzymes. Their earing of honey bees on a large scale is called apiculture.
